
The Child Care Specialist plays an important role at Respite Care, Inc. because they are responsible for engaging and supervising children with developmental disabilities between the ages of 6 weeks and 18 years. Each Child Care Specialist contributes to engaging children in developmentally appropriate activities and maintaining a clean, safe, environment. They also learn and support each child’s individual needs, including behavior plans, toileting routines, feeding techniques, dietary needs, and medication needs.

Please note, Respite Care is currently hiring team members who hold an ECPC 3.0 – Level 2 or higher. We’re seeking part-time staff to support our weekend, school-out day, and school-break programs as well as qualified full-time staff to support our day-time programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Engaging and actively supervising children with developmental disabilities ages 6 weeks - 18 years
Leading child care activities
Learning to support each child's individual needs and provide basic care following toileting routines, feeding techniques, dietary needs and medication needs
Charting and maintaining child care records
Providing behavior management and support
Communicating professionally and effectively with parents daily
Completing household duties, including cleaning up after mealtimes, laundry, vacuuming, and others to maintain a clean and safe environment
Maintaining confidentiality
Administering medications (after minimum of 3 months employment and completion of required trainings)
Completing all necessary trainings upon hire and annually
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Ability to use computers and look at monitors several times per day
Ability to communicate professionally via email, phone, and in person
Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, bend at the waist, and lift 50 lbs.
Ability to sit, stand, or play for up to 8 hours per day
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older
ECPC 3.0 – Level 1 required, or willingness to obtain within one month of hire
ECPC 3.0 – Level 2 or higher preferred; completion of EQIT and/or Infant/Toddler or Preschool (IPS) training is preferred
Must be a reliable and engaged team member who prioritizes effective communication
Must be adaptable, solutions oriented, and have a positive attitude
Hours and Time Off
Must be available a minimum of 20 hours per week
Must be available to work 1 weekend day per week
Must be available to attend staff meetings 1-2 evenings per month
Must be available to attend occasional weekend events, including staff retreats and fundraising events
Time off must be approved in advance by Scheduling Coordinator
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position oversees children and volunteers.
Salary
$17 - $22 per hour
